Ο Σταύρος Παναγιωτάκης γεννήθηκε το 1963 στα Χανιά, αλλά από μικρή ηλικία έζησε στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Σπούδασε ζωγραφική στην Ανώτατη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών του Βερολίνου U.D.K στο εργαστήριο του κ. Gerhard Bergmann (1984-1989), ενώ παράλληλα παρακολούθησε μαθήματα χαρακτικής και γλυπτικής στο εργαστήριο του S. Taigiri. Συνέχισε τις σπουδές του με υποτροφία του D.A.A.D και το 1991 απέκτησε το μεταπτυχιακό τίτλο σπουδών (Meisterschüler) από την Ανώτατη Σχολή Καλών του Βερολίνου U.D.K. Το 2015 αναγορεύθηκε διδάκτορας του Τμήματος Αρχιτεκτόνων Μηχανικών της Πολυτεχνικής Σχολής Α.Π.Θ. Υπήρξε υπεύθυνος του Γραφείου Πολιτιστικών Θεμάτων της Διεύθυνσης Δευτεροβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης του Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης. Δίδαξε στη δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση (1994-2006), στην Αρχιτεκτονική Σχολή του Α.Π.Θ. (2000-2007 με σύμβαση Π.Δ. 407) και στο Τμήμα Εικαστικών και Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών της Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών ως ειδικό εκπαιδευτικό προσωπικό. Είναι μέλος του Ε.Ε.Τ.Ε., του Σ.Κ.Ε.Τ.Β.Ε. (του οποίου και διετέλεσε πρόεδρος, 2000-2003) και της ομάδας Έλασμα , ενώ το 1999 διοργάνωσε το καλλιτεχνικό χωριό Παροικία Ιστίων.
Τα πρώιμα έργα κινούνται στο μεταίχμιο παράστασης και αφαίρεσης, διατηρώντας μια λαμπρή ισορροπία ανάμεσα στην ένταση της χειρονομιακής γραφής και το δυναμισμό της ύλης, με έντονες τις επιρροές από τον γερμανικό εξπρεσιονισμό. Το ενδιαφέρον του για τον όγκο, το χώρο και την προσάρτηση του χώρου στο έργο τον οδήγησε επίσης σε τρισδιάστατες κατασκευές με χρήση ποικίλων υλικών που συνεργάζονται με χρώμα, καθώς και σε εικαστικές παρεμβάσεις στο περιβάλλον. Παράλληλα εργάστηκε και σε τελάρο παίρνοντας ερεθίσματα από φωτογραφήσεις μηχανών ή εργαλείων. Ακολούθησαν σχεδιαστικές παραλλαγές πάνω στο αρχικό ερέθισμα και η δημιουργία χρωματικών πεδίων που ορίζονται από τα διάκενα των σχεδίων.
Έχει δημοσιεύσει ποιήματα και συμμετείχε σε συμπόσια γλυπτικής-ζωγραφικής Βραβεύτηκε στην 6η Biennale Μικρογραφίας (Μιλάνοβιτς, 2000).
Από το 1987 πραγματοποίησε πληθώρα ατομικών εκθέσεις σε Ελλάδα και Γερμανία και συμμετείχε σε πολλές ομαδικές μεταξύ των οποίων συγκαταλέγονται οι Griechische Kreise. Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες (Βερολίνο (1990), Λατομείο - Εικαστικές επεμβάσεις, (Ασβεστοχώρι Θεσσαλονίκης, (1995), Νεκρή φύση/φύση νεκρή, (Θεσσαλονίκη (1996), Έγκλειστον, (Αθήνα 1998 με την ομάδα Έλασμα), Όψεις της εικαστικής Δημιουργίας στη Θεσσαλονίκη μετά το 1960, (Θεσσαλονίκη (1997), Contemporary Art in the Balkans (Θεσσαλονίκη, 1999), Athens by art (2004), 2η Biennale Πεκίνου (2005), Nylon Group, Μπιενάλε Τασκένδης, Ουζμπεκιστάν (2007) κ.ά.
Ζει και εργάζεται στη Θεσσαλονίκη και το Βερολίνο.

Stavros Panagiotakis was born in 1963 in Chania, but from an early age he lived in Thessaloniki. He studied painting at the Berlin U.D.K. School of Fine Arts in the studio of Mr. Gerhard Bergmann (1984-1989), while at the same time he attended courses in printmaking and sculpture in the studio of S. Taigiri. He continued his studies with a scholarship from the D.A.A.D. and in 1991 he obtained the postgraduate degree (Meisterschüler) from the Berlin School of Fine Arts U.D.K. In 2015 he was awarded a doctorate from the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He was in charge of the Office of Cultural Affairs of the Directorate of Secondary Education of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. He taught in secondary education (1994-2006), at the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2000-2007 with contract P.D. 407) and at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts as a special teaching staff. He is a member of the E.E.T.E., the S.K.E.T.B.E. (of which he was president, 2000-2003) and the Elasma group , while in 1999 he organized the artistic village Parikia.
The early works move between representation and abstraction, maintaining a brilliant balance between the intensity of gestural writing and the dynamism of the material, with strong influences from German Expressionism. His interest in volume, space and the attachment of space to the work has also led him to three-dimensional constructions using a variety of materials that work with color, as well as visual interventions in the environment. At the same time, he also worked in canvas, taking inspiration from photographs of machines or tools. This was followed by design variations on the original stimulus and the creation of colour fields defined by the gaps in the drawings.
He has published poems and participated in sculpture-painting symposia He was awarded at the 6th Biennale of Micrography (Milanowitz, 2000).
Since 1987 he has held numerous solo exhibitions in Greece and Germany and participated in many group exhibitions including Griechische Kreise. Greek Artists (Berlin (1990), Latokioio - Visual Interventions, (Asvestochori Thessaloniki, (1995), Nekri nature/nature dead, (Thessaloniki (1996), Engkliton, (Athens 1998 with the group Elasma), Aspects of visual creation in Thessaloniki after 1960, (Thessaloniki (1997), Contemporary Art in the Balkans (Thessaloniki, 1999), Athens by art (2004), 2nd Beijing Biennale (2005), Nylon Group, Tashkent Biennale, Uzbekistan (2007) etc. ά.
He lives and works in Thessaloniki and Berlin.
